We Love Tits – Rye Harbour

On Saturday 18th May we pitched up the tent at Rye Harbour, in the car park for the Nature Reserve. During the week there had been threats of naughty weather, but as usual the forecasters weren’t quite on the ball and despite it being a bit windy it was a pleasant day. This was to be a quick ‘pop-up’ exhibition, we announced the location earlier in the week, arrived at the spot on Saturday and put the show up for one day only. The erection of the tent and hanging of the work was achieved in record time, taking us about 20 minutes in total to get the whole thing set up. Here is the ‘blurb’ from the show itself:
“On Sunday 31st March, artists David Fowler & Martin Symons spent the morning at Rye Nature Reserve with the intention of recording their findings. Keen to work in direct response to the landscape, the artists set themselves the task of producing a series of images throughout the morning. This exhibition is the culmination of that work, celebrating the lives of the wildlife resident to the nature reserve. Exploring themes through drawing, this exhibition reflects the artists’ deep fascination with the natural landscape. The Tent Gallery is the perfect vehicle to showcase this work, essentially a joyful paean to the beauty that surrounds us all.”

We are thankful to Barry, who gave us permission to pitch up the tent and also to Roy, who provided some much needed advice on the weather situation throughout the day. Thanks Roy.
A most excellent by-product of the day was an invite back to the reserve to be a part of the Sussex Wildlife festival on the 2nd June. We pitched up again with a repeat show and invited visitors to make drawings of the wildlife and nature they found around the location. Please follow the links to look at images taken from the site during our visit. A gallery of work produced by visitors will be added when power is back in the study area where our scanner is located.

The Tent Gallery will be somewhere in Sussex towards the end of June with a new project – more news next week!

Happy camping!
Love from Martin & Dave
